School Calenders

Once again there are school calenders available in each classroom. Snap Printing have kindly sponsored these calenders for many years now and we are all very grateful to them for their continuing support of our school. The calenders incudes a photograaph of each class and also a list of school closures for 2012.
The cost of the calendar is 5 euro and funds raised will help towards the purchase of teaching resources for use in our school.

Christmas Greetings

On behalf of all the Children and Staff of Killeeneen National School we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Helping the Simon Community

On the 15th of December, 5th and 6th classes went to Kilcolgan Nursing Home and The Village Nursing Home. We sang carols and did some Irish Dancing for the residents. We chatted to them afterwards and gave them some biscuits as a Christmas present. Everybody really enjoyed the visit and the staff of both Nusing Homes gave us lots of sweets and a drink. Now on the 20th of December, 6th class will be going carol singing to the Eyre Square Shopping Centre to collect for the Simon Community in Galway. Simon works for the homeless in Galway and throughout Ireland. So if you are in town please drop in and say hello to us.

The Alan Kerins Project

The Alan Kerins Projects has launched a new progamme called Kidz 2 Kidz, where Irish children are offered a very real opportunity to reach out and help children in Zambia.  As a school we would like to support the programme. We have some of their gift cards available at 5 or 10 euro.  A 5 euro card would provide a Christmas dinner for a family of 6, while 10 euro could pay school fees for a child in Zambia for the whole year.  We are inviting the children to contribute to this direct way of helping other children and to use these cards for family members at Christmas. For futher information on the Alan Kerins Projects visit http://www.alankerinsprojects.org/

Freaky Fruity Feast Friday by Rachel Quirke

On Friday, the 27th of October we had a “Freaky Fruity Feast Friday” and everybody in the school dressed up in their Halloween costumes. We also had a Walk on Friday, where everybody walked part of the way to school. We went to the G.P Room where we made smoothies with a special bicycle. Kieran Pfeiffer was the first to cycle the bike then Hugh Lane had a go as well but the chain came off and that was the end of the smoothies. We had a competition for juniors to 2nd class where they had to make up a name for a  smoothie and 3rd to 6th class had to make up a name for a  smoothie and the recipe. In the end Eve Cloonan won in the junior’s competition and the name of her smoothie was “Devil’s Deadly Delight”. Lily Kennedy won in the senior’s level and the name her smoothie was “Brain Freeze”. We all had a great day!!!

WOW Day

On Wednesday the 23rd February Killeeneen National held it's first 'Walk On Wednesday'. This involved the pupils, staff and parents creating a 'Walking Bus' from two designated points a short distance from the school.  All pupils were dropped off at these locations and then walked the remaining distance to school.  The 'Walking Bus' is a healthy, fun, safe and environmentally friendly way of travelling to school.  The idea is that children walk together as a group along a set route and there is a ‘driver’ at the front of the bus and a ‘conductor’ at the rear.

Please see our 'Green Schools' page for more pictures of the event.
