Green School Slogans

Our Green School Committee is hard at work! They organised a whole school slogan competition to come up with the slogan we will use this year as we work towards our 4^th Green Flag. These are the winners:

 3^rd class-

 3^rd place- Katie Fox with her slogan ‘Don’t drive to school, you’ll save more fuel!’

2^nd place- Leigha O’Boyle with her slogan ‘Don’t waste fuel, walk to school!’            

1^st place- Adam O’Brien with his slogan ‘When travelling to school don’t waste fuel, remember the rule and always carpool!’ 

4^th class –

 3^rd place- David Mullis with his slogan. ‘Reduce CO-2 and start walking to school!’ 2^nd place- Paul Molloy with his slogan.  ‘Less driving, more walking!’

 1^st place- Caoimhe O’Reilly with her slogan. ‘Walk, you’ll save fuel and you’ll feel cool!’

 5^th class-

 4^th place- Lauren Roberts with her slogan. ‘Fuel ruins the ozone layer, can we please stop and care!’

 3^rd place- Eva Gallagher with her slogan. ‘Walk, cycle, run its fun!’

 2^nd place -

with his slogan. ‘Stride, don’t ride!’

1^st place- Shane Mullins with his slogan.

‘If your not going far, don’t use your car!’                                                                                                       6^th class-

 2^nd place- Sam Mc Ardle and Luke Butler with their slogan ‘Don’t waste fuel on your way to school, be cool and use a car pool!’ 1^st place- Emma Trowell and Jacinta Long and their slogan ‘Be eco cool by saving fuel, why not walk or cycle to school!’

 All of the slogans are fantastic. Out of the whole school, the overall winners were Emma Trowell and Jacinta Long from 6^th class.

The Eagerly Awaited Clash!!!!

Clarinbridge vs. Loughrea…….

On the 21/11/10 Clarinbridge took to the field to play 'hot favourites' Loughrea in the county final replay. There was a massive crowd and a great atmosphere both before and during the match. We can’t forget about the referee falling as he threw in the ball!

There was top class skill, determination and aggression shown by both sides, with every ball fought for until the bitter end. There were great scores throughout the game. At half time the score was Clarinbridge 6 points to ‘the Town’s’ 7 points. As the second half got under way Mark Kerins scored from two frees for Clarinbridge. At this stage, it looked like they had their mojo back. Clarinbridge fought for the ball to the bitter end and           managed to end ordinary time in a draw.

It went on to extra time and following tense words from Michael Donoghue in the dressing room, Clarinbridge came out with an amazing performance which blew Loughrea away. At half time of extra time they had their talk and Clarinbridge again gave an amazing performance in the second half with Mark kerins getting the score of the match. The whistle was blown and a huge crowd ran out onto the pitch to congratulate the victorious Clarinbridge team. Paul Callannan lifted the Tom Callannan cup to great excitement. The team visited the school on Tuesday and thankfully gave us no homework, which doesn’t happen too often! It was a great day for Clarinbridge people,

               one we will never forget!

Scores on the day were; Mark Kerins 8 points, Paul Ceon 4, Barry Daly 2, Stephen Forde, Eoin Forde, Alan Kerins and Shane Burke all scored one point.

• Put an apple in your lunchbox every day!
• Try to have at least two pieces of vegetables everyday!
• Have a piece of fruit for your breakfast!
• Have a smoothie!
• Instead of sweets have some fruit or vegetables!
• At a party have a healthy dinner instead of chips!
• Try to have your 5 a day!
• Grow your own vegetables!
• Bring a healthy lunch to school or work!
• Squeeze an orange and make orange juice!



Movie Review

A new movie was released recently in cinemas nationwide called

                Ramona and Beezus

 We would recommend this movie to girls and boys of all ages.

 It is a very good movie about a girl called Ramona who is very imaginative.  She has two sisters and seems to be always in trouble at school.  When her

Dad loses his job; life gets difficult and sacrifices are made.  They may have to move home and leave old friends.

Aunt B discovers that her high school crush is staying for a while next door and he is trying to win her back. As for Beezus the eldest of the three girls who is in high school

Is going through her own high school crush, has to put up with her parents constant fighting.  Overall Ramona and her two sisters are in for a big surprise, can Ramona stop her auntie B and her parents from making a big mistake?

GREEN SCHOOLS

This year we are going for our fourth green flag and the theme is ‘Travel’.

On the 9^th of November 2010 our Green Schools Committee consisting of pupils from 1^st class to 6^th class carried out a ‘Walk Ability Audit’ with Graham Clarke a very helpful Green School representative. Ms. Cooney and Ms. Kelleher accompanied us on the walk.  Mrs. Browne and Mrs. Gohery are also on the committee.

The Committee received between 45 - 55 High Visibility Jackets for the school thankfully given to us by Graham. As we walked down the road in our visibility jackets we discovered that there are many problems on our road that we wish to fix in the next couple of months before we can have a walk to school day.

The committee meets weekly to discuss and solve problems and plan our first MOM (March On Monday) day. The committee members are Ornagh and Ross (6^th class), Shane and Loran (5^th Class), Hannah and Daniel (4^th class), Catherine and Conal (3^rd class), Mathew and Alice (2^nd class) and Adam and Isabelle (1^st class).
